Love from Computer Keys: A look at Online Dating Sites

By Charles L Harmon

Who would have ever thought it was possible to find love by simply typing a few letters on a keyboard? That was oh so true even 15 years ago. However since online dating sites came on line shortly after the birth of the World Wide Web those keys are now computer keys and the gateway to your potential love or relationship is the Internet through online dating sites.

Is the usual dating scene becoming a bit much for you? Are you tired of fixing yourself up to hit all the usual places in town, just find someone compatible with you? It’s a lot of work and hassle but you strikeout anyway? As many times as you’ve done this you should be a more of a charmer than a loser. If this situation sounds a little familiar maybe the traditional approach isn’t for you. You need to widen your horizons. That means you also need to have an open mind.

Previously a main avenue for those with lonely hearts was through the use personal ads. That was a way to search for their perfect match. However, with the change in times and advances in technology and the internet, posting personal ads in the paper are things of the past (maybe I should check the paper and see if anyone is still doing that). Now there are online dating sites. That’s really an understatement. I recently did a check and there were well over a half million results when searching for online dating sites.

Whether you’re a guy or girl the various sites will have from a few to many- maybe too many to count, of the specific type of person you are looking for. What makes it so nice is you can search from the comfort of your home, or anywhere else. No dressing up. No going out. No muss and fuss like regular dating just to find the right person like those once-upon-a-time good old days.

Online dating sites are a cool way for people to find that ‘special someone’ using the “information superhighway”. Online Dating sites have revolutionized the romance scene for many adults looking for love. While those not initiated into the computer age still take the traditional route of hanging out in the traditional places and going through the usual games of attraction, and putting your best foot forward.

A world away from those archaic practices, online dating site users enjoy the art of conversation via chatting and e-mail. Bars have been replaced with chat rooms. Using online dating sites makes it a safe, easy, and inexpensive way to find one’s partner/soul mate.

If you are planning to take the normally easy out by using online dating sites on the information highway to find love, here are a few things you should know beforehand.

1) Find an online dating site – There are too many online dating sites out there in the cyberspace of the internet to even count. You can use Google or one of the other popular search engines to do a search. Find an online dating site that is right for you. You will probably have to read the information from several of the online dating sites before you settle on one.

2) Set up a personal profile – The chief policy for online dating sites is honesty and sincerity. Veteran online dating site members can often spot inconsistencies and lies. You’re looking for a truthful relationship, so set up a profile that is attractive and yet sincere.

3) Search for a good match – The good thing about each online dating site is that are many profiles for you to pick and choose from. It’s a smorgasbord of potential life-partners. Take your time and analyze all the profiles that fit your type of date or mate.
