Disabled Men and Women: Find a Loving Partner through Online Dating

Now days you’ll find online dating sites that cater to those with special needs. Some sites even specialize further than broad conditions. They specifically target members with the same disease in common, such as Autism or Multiple Sclerosis.

For people with disabilities, dating is almost always harder than for those without such limitations. Not only is it more difficult to get around for some, but there’s also the risk of rejection that many disabled people fear when asking someone out on a date in person. Of course even those without such limitations also have the fear of rejection so you are not alone in that respect.

When men and women have limited time to join the dating scene, they often go to online websites to find prospects of the opposite sex to start a relationship with. Online dating sites allow members to get to know each other by letting them screen potential dates for the things they have in common, such as a disability, or characteristics they want in a partner. It is often a real shortcut to finding a date or partner if you have the great advantage of using the Internet to speed up your search efforts. Those specialized online dating sites for those with disabilities are a real help if you are also looking to find someone with a disability.

Some relationships start off from online communities not geared to dating, but with multiple options, such as friendship, support, and advice. Other sites make their intentions known – that the website helps put disabled people in touch with others also afflicted with disabilities so that they have that major issue out in the open.

Sometimes there’s a stigma against disabled people from other disabled people. They feel they want to partner with someone not suffering from the same ailment. Other times it makes it easier for the relationship to progress because the date is someone who knows what life is like for the other person. This can be a major advantage as people without a disability may never truly understand the feelings and limitations a disabled person might have.

Disabled adults also want to be included in the fun and excitement of dating without fear of incrimination from others in the online dating pool. The problem with a disabled person joining a website devoted exclusively to disabled dating is that the membership may be small. This can severely limit the available choices of a potential partner.

If this is the case, you can join multiple sites and broaden your horizons. You never know what person will read your profile, love everything about you, and are willing to overlook any disabilities that you fear someone else may balk at.

Be sure to highlight the other positive things about you so any potential partner will not be concentrating on your disability. That would be less of a problem if you are a member of a site for those with disabilities. Let your personality come through, be positive and showcase the unique characteristics that set you apart from others.

Online dating is intimidating for almost everyone. Even beautiful, healthy people may have butterflies in their stomachs as their profile goes live and they wait while others review and critique them for the possibility of a future date. It’s the thought that you will be scrutinized that could have you on edge or the possibility of a bad experience that probably won’t happen.

Go into the online dating situation with confidence in who you are, and your disability will often have minor importance as your personality is allowed to come to the forefront and shine. Know that even though you may have a disability that is only a small part of who you are. There are others that will accept you for who you are and you have to be patient like all of us in finding that special person. That’s the same for anyone doing online dating whether disabled or not.
