When you are using an online dating website you may not think too much about your online dating photo, but it’s important. In fact, a potential date could look at your dating photo and instantly make up their mind whether to pursue a relationship with you or pass you by. You really should pick a good online dating photo of yourself, if at all possible.
What message do you give out in your online dating photo? One thing that some people do is have a photo with an ex-girlfriend or boyfriend on an online dating site. Aside from violating the person’s privacy, this is really not the best choice for introducing yourself to another person. It’s starting off on the wrong foot and who know where it will lead. It’s like telling a lie and ending up telling many more lies to cover up the first lie.
Nowadays it isn’t hard today to take a photo with a digital camera or even cell phone so that you don’t have to resort to a dating photo showing an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend. This may make the person viewing your picture wonder if you may include them in a dating photo in future! It will also get them thinking if they did this even before we met, what else are they hiding? It is always better to display your own dating photo than play any of the above tricks.
Think about what you like to see when you view someone’s dating photo. In speaking with a few female friends, they commented that they like to see three or four photos of a guy. One would be him alone outside or in his home. Another could be with family members or with a pet. A third dating photo is one where he is traveling. A fourth might be a photo with friends at a restaurant.
Women have also commented that they aren’t looking for dating photos of some guy’s six pack of abs which is often the kind of online dating photos guys put up (or pictures of a shirt buttoned down to the belly button). The women asked reported that they like to see family shots and dating photos showing social situations more than a modeling portfolio that is just showing off someone’s ego.
Take the time to put online the most recent photos of yourself if you can, so there isn’t any miscommunication. If you upload a picture from ten years ago then it can lead to different expectations and unrealistic projections. It is okay to not look like you did ten years ago. Hopefully anyone you are attracting are not shallow or only looking at your appearance, but are looking at inner development as well.
Don’t forget to write that in your profile. What have you learned about love, compassion, forgiveness and yourself? Put that in the narrative section so people get to see the inner you too! It’s almost always a treat to read a profile with some useful information about the persons likes and dislikes and other information apart from their age and physical characteristics. A nice dating photo to complement that would be the icing on the cake.
People are looking for a real person with wisdom and life experiences so don’t short change yourself by leaving that out of your profile. It’s your inner life that has the riches so let that shine through and don’t just think of the outer appearance.
As far as the outer appearance make sure you do have a presentable dating photo. If you don’t have any it’s best to somehow take a few new pictures then pick out the best ones to include in a profile. If you have any doubts as to whether your pictures look good, you could ask a friend or two to pick the picture or pictures that looks best to them.
Sometimes others see you in a different light. If you are serious about finding a date from online sources then don’t shortchange yourself by submitting anything but the best dating photo pictures you can get along with an interesting profile with some of your likes and dislikes.
