Romantic Relationships – A Key to Build a Better Marriage

A romantic relationship was passionate and fun when you were single. Is it like that now that you’re married and older? It’s not for many, but why isn’t it today, even though you’re older and married it should be? And it could be. Age is no barrier.

When you were single, the choice between a romantic relationship and a dull and boring one was a no-brainer. But now that you are married it’s very likely that that same romantic atmosphere and feelings aren’t showing themselves like they should. One reason you chose your loving marriage partner was because they were romantic, full of life and passion.

How is your marriage now? Have you kissed or held hands lately? Other things seem to be more important but so is making quality time, for each other. A lot of marriages have suffered, even to the point of divorce, when there is no love shown, whether it’s really there or not.

If your marriage is lacking that romantic spark then rekindle the lost romance in your marriage. Even with obligations at work and home it can be done. You might feel guilty and have to put off something to make time to be together and have fun, but that guilty feeling won’t last and you just might fall in love the second time around. Your spirit will be renewed. Your coworkers will wonder why you’re smiling and seem much happier than before.

Start focusing on positive things. Stop seeing the negative side of your spouse. Accent their positive qualities. You can find them. Just look. Depending on your outlook, most things have a positive side if you only look for it.

Remember what you did when you were dating to experience romance and intimacy. You did loving, thoughtful things while getting to know each other. You exchanged gifts, took walks, dined in a romantic restaurant and probably took in some movies. Why aren’t you or your spouse happy? What is the problem?

Maybe you’re too serious. Shed it! Act like a kid again, sometimes. Do something silly together and laugh. Loosen up and forget your problems for a while. Likely you’ll both be laughing like old times.

A massage is something that will make your other half feel good. See where it goes from there. The better you make someone else feel, the better you’ll feel. In the morning try fixing breakfast and serve it in bed. Who knows where that will lead? Play the part of a hopeless romantic and see where that gets you. I’ll bet you won’t regret that!

Other things might come to mind that may bring back some romance to your relationship. Like the TV ad, Just Do it! Take your time but at least get started in adding that missing romantic feeling and action back into your marriage. You will be better for it and feel better about the whole situation too. If things work out right your spouse will too and that romantic spark will have worked wonders into a stagnant marriage.
