Online Dating Safety Concerns Men Too

By Honey B. Wackx

A common thought when one thinks of online dating might be that women watch out. Just look at TV and you’ll see and hear horror stories of men tricking young girls and sometimes molesting them. Although that has been recently in the news those incidents are not usually happening with online dating websites. That is not typical of online dating.

Almost everything you read about online dating safety is directed at women but men need to be concerned as well. Perverts, sexual predators and others who would take advantage of you come in both sexes and all ages, the same as do liars and cheaters. So men need to stay on guard too, the same as women. But most probably they need to be on alert for those women who might entice him just to get money from him.

Look at the online dating site photos and generally you’ll see mostly pictures of women. Many pretty, some not. It’s almost always a showcase of women. Obviously there are women looking for dates too, but it’s usually the safety of women that’s of prime concern. There is nothing wrong with that but just as there are bad or unscrupulous men who abuse online dating, so too are there women taking advantage of unsuspecting men.

It‘s common knowledge not to readily give out personal information to strangers. We sometimes drill that into our little kids head, but it applies to giving out our own information too. The reason for not doing so is to protect yourself from strangers who want that information. This is all a part of online dating safety. If you come across a person who is giving out personal information and asking others to do the same, don’t do it. You don’t know what they want to use it for. You’d better believe they want to use it for something and it surely will not be for your benefit.

Men, also, need to guard their real names, addresses, phone numbers, and place of employment. Do not give that information to anyone online until you are confident they are who they say they are. Be wary of women who seem too financially needy. If they ask for money cut the relationship off immediately. Pay attention for there are any number of ways women can ask for money. If they are asking for a favor of money they are not looking for love or friendship, they are looking for financial gain or help.

If a woman gives you a contact number but you can never reach her at that number, beware. If you always have to page them or text them and have them call you back, this could be a sign that what they are telling you is not the complete truth. For most people, it is not common that they can never be reached so beware.

The need to get married and insecurity are other signs men should be very wary of. If the woman is pushing too hard for a commitment that you aren’t ready to make, it might be a good time to look for another prospect. It is too easy to get wrapped up and taken in by a sweet sounding woman who is not sincere.

Just be aware of any fishy stories or other tales that lead to you giving them money or knowing too much about their personal life that it makes you feel sorry for them and leads to things you would not normally do to help them. Avoid these things and you should be able to find a true and lasting relationship through online dating.
