Online Dating: It Can Work for You

By Charles Harmon

With the millions of people using online dating sites, it has passed the stage of newness and most of the earlier problems have been eliminated. Yes it still has dangers in some respects, but in general it is a respected medium to meet someone for a chat, date, and ultimately an intimate relationship. Online dating can go as far as you want it to go.

However, go back a dozen years or more when online dating was new it was like the Wild West. Online dating sites were loaded with perverts, sexual predators, and other social misfits or outcasts. Online dating is a mainstream experience for many nowadays. It has been for several years and any social stigma it once had has gone. There are still people that are not aware of online dating, but the numbers are getting fewer as the years go by.

Single people of all ages, races, and religions enjoy online dating. Online dating encompasses both sexes. Every developed country that has Internet access has people using the many online dating sites. Nice guys do it and nice girls too. They both take advantage of the great opportunities that online dating has to offer.

The sites are more specialized now than in the past, or rather I should say there are more new specialized sites springing up every day. These include sites that will make some mainstream or conservative people want to scream or cry foul. Just now, on my dating site, http://unlonely.com, I saw an ad for Lesbian dating. There was another one for financially stable men who want beautiful women.

There are sites for lonely housewives wanting dates. There are sites for non-alcoholics. There are online dating sites for “plus size” men and women. There are online sites for specific religions to meet same. There are both free and paid online dating sites. So the choices are very broad to highly specialized. There is something for just about everyone when it comes to online dating.

The reasons people join online dating sites are varied. However, most people who join do so for three good reasons:

(1) Time – a big savings of time over traditional dating.
(2) Money – a lot of money can be saved over traditional dating expenses.
(3) Great potential for success – there is an excellent chance of finding a compatible date.

Time: Think hundreds of online profiles and you could easily check out that many and a lot more. You definitely don’t have that luxury with traditional dating. Even if it were possible, the cost of dating a lot of people to find that special one would be prohibitive. With online dating it’s easy to look at hundreds of pictures in the same length of time just one in-person date takes. The profiles help you screen potential date candidates. It is usually easy to tell if a guy or girl is looking for a casual relationship or a long term commitment. This doesn’t compare to so much wasted effort to find dates in person if you are like most other folks.

Money: For the price of one very cheap evening out on the town a whole month of meeting men or women from the comfort and safety of your own home can be done with online dating. Not only that, but you can do it in your pajamas, sweats, or any way you happen to be attired. Casual, relaxed, and unstressed is the byword for online dating.

Great potential for success: Online dating really does work. You need to be willing to do the right things. It starts with writing a profile that grabs attention. It must be truthful and should have enough information to show the real you. You need to post recent pictures of yourself. When chatting, be fun and interesting with the person you meet on line. Be sure to answer your emails promptly. Be on time for any pre-arranged online dating meeting.

Yes, in this age of online dating, you have an excellent chance of finding a date that’s right for you. Use caution to weed out any persons too forward, too demanding, or otherwise with traits you deem undesirable. Do that, and you are on your way to online dating happiness, or at least finding an online dating partner you can have a satisfying and worthwhile relationship with.
